I'm an ex-90's Britpop indie kid. A colleague and I stood in WH Smith looking at the NME going 'what the heck is an Emo?!' As far as we can tell, an Emo is a sub-species of Goth. Pretty boy Goth perhaps? I think they wear make-up.

An Emo person generally is seen as an emotional Goth who listens to Emo music (Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock), they tend to have dark hair and dramatic haircut, often swept over the face, they can be boys and girls. Some heavy metal fans don't like the way Emo people are, how they act, how their hair is (a lot of Emo boys are classed as "gay" ), etc, which is just stupid. See photos below for examples.

Cheers folks, I just wondered why they were being attacked Perhaps the people attacking them are secret chavvy types who are too scared to attack proper Goths? Some chavvers are under the impression buying one Oasis cd makes them indie and hence they turn up at festivals to make everyone's life a misery.

I hadn't heard of the term "Emo" either. My pedigree is rather like that of Dogtired (although I was more hippie/goth/rocker and also fairly grungy in the 90s). I find goths very sexy

Also this too, chavs hate goth looking type people with a passion and vice versa.

When I was a teenage hippie goths, chavs were called casuals and tended to the anti-social class disrupting types and the goth type were the more brainy ones. I would be very happy if a child was a goth because it used to be a sign of intelligence and sensitivity. Don't know what it is like these days. Chavs when I talk about them, I mean London and Kent chavs, the real, hardcore, job avoiding, Granny mugging, 5 kids by 17 types. They ruin the lives of hard working people living on London estates with their anti-social behaviour.
