No, I wasn't familiar EB and Im certainly no expert, I just spent an enjoyable hour or so getting to know him a bit though! Im really more a Santana girl of old, so not the same thang at all but I do love guitar. I enjoy all sorts so its always good to find something cool Im not already familiar with and Joe's certainly more than a wee bit talented. Seems to enjoy his job too which I can't fault, the jammie sod! I had fun watching a few of his other vids on youtube. I particularly liked 'Searching' ..all except the brief screechy bit (my own technical term LOL) in the middle that is, but did love the...erm.. whammy pedal? bit towards the end (from around 8.15 in). Just call me fickle girlie. I likes what I likes! Found this fuller version of best man with the Axe on grouper grouper.com/video/MediaDetails.aspx?id=1652300 which was pretty hot. There were quite a few bits and pieces of his on yahoo video if you haven't already looked there. I didnt spot the track you're looking for though!

It's nice to think I might have turned you on to something you weren't aware of. And thanks for the pointer to grouper, I hadn't come across that site before. ;D

Now carrick, we all know Hendrix was part man part guitar but the darn fool done cut himself off in his prime! I still think we never actually got to see the best that he really could be. You could even say he felt it a bit too much! Shame we never saw if he could show as much emotion in the raw, without benefit of drugs. He was the dogs wotsits alright but its fair to say its a lot easier to 'feel' the music, and everything else for that matter, when your under the influence of as many narcotics as they all were back then! hard to imagine how much more he could have gone on to achieve if he'd still been with us today. Although his work influenced so many others since, I can't help but miss what we never got the chance to hear. What a waste!

Thanks for those, carrick. Hendrix was unique. Another brilliant guitarist that I've always loved is Robin Trower. He may not have the personal charisma of Hendrix (or Satriani for that matter) but he's a master of the electric blues guitar. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eldS990JOHoRobin Trower - Daydream He was the guitarist with Procul Harem (Whiter Shade of Pale), and the bugger's still gigging today.

He was truly unique, it was just a huge shame and an awful waste that we never got to see how much more there was still left in him. Im just one of those people who feel we lost even more than he'd already given and that if it weren't for drugs we would have got to see it. There's still a lot of controversy surrounding his death and I know that he actually died from an OD of sleeping pills, but lets face it, nobody who's in full control of their faculties really thinks 10 sleeping pills is a safe dose to take, even if they're the mildest pills. Theres obviously more than meets the eye. I totally agree carrick, he'll never be forgotten, he's inspired every generation since and the work he produced is never wasted. Its just all the great work he never got to show us that's the tragedy and thqt's the thing I cant help feel we were needlessly cheated out of. Your right though, we're very lucky to have what he did leave us.

:)Personally Im not into drug culture and have never taken a drug in my life. Considering I have worked in music myself a long time...that is something but music is a culture and another place from the real world..it is a creative hole and you sort of crawl in there to experience the world in sounds...some people can understand this and some people just cant...the thing with music people is that they live in THEIR world ..they definately do not inhabit the world of conformists because their world is full of distortions. Musicians take an idea and stretch it beyond all proportions, to all sizes, to all shapes and back again to empty it of all its possibilities...Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and all the very many great people of yesterday did take drugs which perhaps in someway rid them of all their inhibitions and made them write and perform from raw feeling and emotion. The drugs also took the pressure off regardless of whether it wrecked them or ruined their lives. The culture that went on at that time was all about dealing with pressure and many stars today take a considerable amount of drugs also which is not so talked about being as it is so common. Music is a very interesting and complex world because there is no end to it. There are too many shapes and too many colours to explore but many of our best ideas came from the minds of people like Jimi who just did what came natural and without inhibition..sometimes the beauty of music is the naturalness with which it is played or performed.

What type of music do you perform, odm? Allsorts now EB. Commercial ..only way to get paid nowadays lol But I used to be a Rock artist loving all of the commercial Rock Bands. Ive always had that punch type of music embedded in my brain, loving Drums and Bass..its the beat that switches me on to be honest. I even love techno and dance and all that stuff in nightclubs because of the beat rather than substance. Years ago I liked Deep Purple out of the heavy rock bands, but have lifelong adored David Bowie though I never liked Tin Machine There are hundreds of Artists I could pay a compliment too. I like Eric Clapton though quite a few might not. I like Pink Floyd but thats more a recent thing because of their effortless ability to play live so flawlessly. My favourite band of all time is Queen because I believe in showmanship and Freddie had it all. I did write music and had a few 'things' come up but also had to turn down things too for reasons. No sour grapes mind you, who wants that kind of a life not me...I like the country remember LOL...I would have ended up like a female Peter Green. Ah, the good old days in music sadly are long behind us all... ..to your exact question before rambling off... anything from Pink, Black Eyed Peas, Scissor Sisters all the way back to the Searchers.
