Know yourself - path to enlightenment

What does it mean to "know yourself"? This site examines it's importance in various religions and philosophies:

The central message is that people should understand themselves, nosce te ipsum (also temet nosce, gnothi seauton). By increasing conscious awareness of yourself and your surroundings you will eventually understand your strengths and weaknesses, prejudices, preferences and things you dismiss without consideration. By following a peaceful path where you do not exert your will on others or your environment but instead listen to everyone and sort it out logically and not how you want or expect things to be you will discover related fundamental truths about yourself and the rest of the world.

I think to 'know yourself' is based on honesty of the self. If you cant be honest with yourself then you will be a poor judge of everything and a learner of nothing.

( P.S. Im still learning to accept that Im nosey, opinionated, and greedy over shortbread...what about you lol ;D )

Tis very difficult to know yourself truley, well I think it is. But it is a grand idea and one I strive to. LOL sometimes I dont like what I see though.

To know yourself would be to know who you are before and after and that you don't really need to change unless you have to ie aisleyne changed from being like a hard nut to crack following her video introduction for Big Brother and we were not really aware of what she was like to being this big soft person who had feelings that were hidden away and not wanting anyone to get close to her, but we saw these changes as the weeks followed and she was quite an emotional person and quite lovely.

This is one of the big reasons I was drawn to Ash, she is someone who is very self-reflective and has a lot of humility.
This contrasts greatly with the arrogant self-centred fools like Grace and Nikki who simply think about themselves rather than learning or having the humility to be self-critical.

Ash= Know yourself.

Nikki= me me me.

I never got the impression that Aisleyne knew herself very well at all in Big Brother. She had such a low opinion of herself, it was heartbreaking to watch.

Humility aside, I hope she realizes her true worth now ;D

I agree Julian, it was heartbreaking to watch but hopefully since she has come out she has realised that she is loved and worth a lot more than her fellow housemates put together.
