European Robins like this are very cute and, of course, very seasonal. They are one of the tamest wild birds you can find. In winter it's even possible to get one to eat out of your hand if you're prepared to hold the sort of things they eat. By all acounts they have been around on this planet for a lot longer than humans, and people think that they might have found their food by following wild pigs around before we arrived on the scene. As there aren't any wild pigs around any more, they appear to have latched on to humans as a good source of food. Only a cute little bird could get away with that, couldn't it? Can you imagine how you'd feel if it was an ostrich sitting on your garden spade? American Robins like this are brash. Your first picture is, in fact, a relative of the American Robin. It is not cute! This is my favourite bird, the Short-Eared Owl. It hunts during the day, so you get to see it more easily, if you know where to look. It prowls over its hunting grounds very slowly and you can often get really good views of its head swivelling around on the lookout.

That is so interesting about the Robins Remaha. I confess I know very little about them only that I noticed them when I was doing some horticulture for a while. I see what you mean about the American type of Robin, they look a little more 'rough' then our cute little standard. I am sure one day I will spend time to learn a bit more as there are one or two birds that are interesting to me. That owl brought back memories too as I lived out in the Country once on a lot of acreage, sadly not mine..oh how I wish but when it was dark an owl was calling every night and it would come out nowhere and swoop right down low over the fields . Because it was still and a bright moon some evenings, this owl being white would appear to be very ghostly...it was fascinating watching it.... the other bird that is really intriguing is the Buzzard. I cannot talk about any birds with any true knowledge but at the same place there were one or two Buzzards and they would hover around during the day looking for their prey. Their wing span was quite impressive and they look very sturdy type of birds. I know there is a lot of interesting stuff about Buzzards. I must brush up my knowledge a little as I do find these really amazing to watch. I know the one with just the face is called a White Buzzard. I printed these pics to show how strong these birds look almost a bit like an eagle in the face.. Buzzard in flight
