LOVE New York!!! It has it all - shopping, food, seasons, sights! Tavern on the Green, Serendipity - you can tell I like my food!!
Portugal - great weather, and doesnt take all day to get there. But I have a friend who lives there, so maybe I have a biased view. Did my first flight alone there and loved it - I felt like a proper grown up, and I'm 48!!
Goa - went last year to a great hotel-Leela Palace- but serious money!!
If anyone is doing the Grand Canyon, do spend a day or 2 and go to Sedona, and hour or so away. Quite spiritual - vortexes apparently- and an artists community.
Florence - really liked it. Go to Santa Maria Pharmacy, aroumd the corner from Santa Maria Church / square. Let your nose guide you, like with Lush shops - anyone know them? Its a centuries old place where the monks started to produce perfume. Best pot pourri ever, if you like churchy smells - lasts months at least. Great soaps, perfumes. They also have a tiny shop in London.
Has anyone done Vegas - may be going next year, and would like recommendations. Also Rome - going in October, have a guide book for sights and have booked our hotel, but any ideas for where to shop, and eat greatly appreciated!

I only have one travel story to tell of really. I have been phobic about flying all my life and had only ever been out of the country once before, a ferry to Brugge on a day trip. My husbands sister lives in Perth W Australia and has been out there several times without me. I finally went in January this year!! I still don't know how I did it i haven't been cured because I would be just as scared if there was to be a next time. But I am really pleased with myself that I did it and we had a fantastic holiday. I had never been on a white sand beach with such beautiful turquoise water before!

If you are traveling to New York, buy a MetroCard. the subway is fairly easy to navigate and the busses are great. I think they cost $24 for a week unlimited travel. Go to the Empire State Building just before dark, the sight of the city lighting up is fantastic. There are loads of FREE things to do in NY, the Staten Island ferry is free, and has good views of the statue of liberty and Ellis Island. Many museums and art galleries are free on certain days of the week. There are also loads of free theater, Shakespeare in the Park is very good and features well know actors. You will need to queue for free tickets, the queues are very long so get there early. Central Park. Things like this are happening in NY all the time, check at www.nycvisit.com/content/index.cfm?pagePkey=1Caribbean Splashdown Music Festival Marcus Garvey Park 122nd Street & 5th Ave, NYC | 212-534-8689 2nd annual Caribbean music festival featuring Reggae & Soca artists from the United States and the Caribbean. A great day for the family, come out and enjoy the music. For info, www.caribbeansplashdown.com.

Scared to death of flying since i went to Spain with parents when i was 10, but have flown to Germany and to Portugal - gripping the sides at the same time
I love Germany and Portugal especially as i went there with college in my twenties with the course i was doing and we went all over in Portugal, Also went to Germany when was 13 with School a total different area, and down the Rhine (but that was by boat). Have also been with family when much younger, Holland, Belgium (Brussels)
Never been to the States, but would love to visit California especilly LA.
I am more at home though going to London every year though for 2 weeks just sifting through the shops and maybe going to Reading/Oxford area as Uncle used to stay up there
