Why do we like her so much ?
I start this thread because ever since I first became fond of Ash I've never been able to articulate why . I could list loads of things that I like about her, things she did, etc. but at the same time she's a mystery to me, an enigma in many ways.
Ash is not easy to like, let me qualify that - take Helen BB2, I adored her, she was uncomplicated, sweet and funny, easy to like, but I wasn't fascinated by her the way I am with Ash. Ash is complicated and difficult to define so I find myself constantly wondering about her.
I've watched BB every year but I have never been affected by a HM like Ash, she is by far the most fascinating HM they've ever had.
The closest I can come to describing it is : I feel this enormous empathy towards her.
But why?
Well I don't suppose I'll ever know really, so instead I thought I'd start a thread about it.
Do you guys wonder about why you like her so much? or is it clear to you?

Yes, I think we have all wondered what it is about Aisleyne that attracts us to her.
For me, I think it is that she has had similar life experiences to me and I can identify with her emotional expierence/reactions in the house.
Also Aisleyne has an attraction, "not physical" although she is beautiful, but something in her personality. I could write a lot here but it's late.

Sorry to say this, but the 1st thing that attracted me to her was how sexy, hot and stunningly gawjuz she was I ent shallow though, I love her personality as well, my bessie m8 said the reason I love Ash so much is the fact I am like her in so many ways, like the way she talks, acts etc. Her personality is off the hook, she is everything I like about people . I have never loved a BB HM like her b4, she is the best HM ever ;D Plus she gives me joke ;D some of the things she came out with ;D And did I mention how sexy and hot she is xxxx

I think the strength of feeling is probably connected with the injustice of the majority perception towards her and treatment of her. If Aisleyne had been the runaware favourite instead of Pete, if everyone cheered her whenever her name was mentioned, if she got nothing but good comments on BBBM and had celebrities queueing up in droves to support her on BBLB I wonder if our feelings would have been quite so strong?
Having said that, objectively speaking, I do think that she showed a lot of the character traits that I personally consider the most important. Compassion and respect for others, personal integrity and a willingness to stand up for her principles and to defend her friends.
In a way we shared her trauma in the house and that makes us feel connected to her more than we might feel towards other housemates who had less of a hard time but, even so, I can't help feeling that if anyone deserves my devotion as a fan based purely on merit of character it's Aisleyne.
Regards

I genuinely believe each of us made a bit of a discovery when it comes to Aisleyne. It was like finding a great work of art underneath a piece of graffiti.
On the forums, Ash fans were like scientists who had seen x-rays of the original picture but had difficulty persuading people it was there until the layers of old paint started to be removed.
Add to that the twists in the house, the conflicts with HMs we didn't like, the real-life stories that emerged, and the prejudice displayed by HMs and anti-Ash fans - well it all seemed to make supporting Aisleyne worthwhile.

:)When Aisleyne stepped out of her box in the garden she made an impact. For one thing she was lovely and my first thought was 'aye aye' this one will throw a spanner in the works and i remember actually loving her...I also thought that when she was standing there talking to Sezar with a drink in her hand that she was taking things in very carefully and she had Sezar sussed from early on. It took no time at all for her to pull him up about 'getting rid of the bullies' and I think Sezar was a bit surprised at her for saying that as he faltered if you remember when he replied to her. She just smiled though and carried on watching him. The other really funny moment, classic I feel was when she was plumped up on the bean bag in her white dress with everything left to the imagination and all the housemates were standing there virtually interrogating her, Sezar and Imogen giving each other sarcastic looks which were aimed at Aisleyne, I think Lea or Lisa was standing there as well and Mikey was on the beanbag next to her after a bit. But you could see the tension with the girls just looking on at Ais and Ais did not seem to care. She was just a really cool customer and fully in control of the situation. A little while later when the introductions were done, you will remember her sitting on the sofa and being ignored a little bit although her and sam exchanged a few words, I could sense her concerns and her angst as for a few moments she appeared to look as though she was not sure what to do next. The others at that time had definately left her corner.. Only later when she donned her pink nightie teddy did she take control again and there we saw a very impish, but classy Ais again who had such charisma and she just made me laugh. Aisleyne was THE character this year, wonderful, clever, and very good at picking up vibes off other people. She would try to tame that side of herself and just let things flow but sometimes you could see that when she did that and dropped her guard it was almost like other people took advantage of her. She has so many interesting qualities, different looks, and personalities too. Ais can turn herself into more than one person and be very surprising. She is more like a Gemini girl than a Capricorn because Geminis have the most expressive eyes, always lively , sharp and inquisitive and always with a smile in them. Aisleyne is a drug, for us all, we want more of her because we love to see what she is doing, whether she is happy, whether she is making the most of herself. She has brought out the mother, sister, brother, aunty etc in all of us and that is superstar status or at least , where it begins. Aisleyne is a minx and a stray all rolled into one, we love her though and for people like her, defining her to a tee will never come easy. Thats the whole point of Aisleyne, she is a kaleidescope of colours and shapes and we never know what we are gong to see from one move to the other. I adore her. I cannot be so generous to the other housemates because they were not real. Our AISLEYNE is.

I remember when she arrived they had a psychologist on as I remember describing the 2 new personalities and she said that Ash would stir things up, that she was very worldly-wise or something .
anyway, the other girls immediately started their bitchy/catty comments, ash had her famous run-in with sezer and then nothing much happened (according to the HLs anyway) . I started waching the LF at night and she was just so different to evryone else, she never made catty comments , never slagged off anyone's clothes or looks or appearance, and she seemed oblivious to the fact that the other girls did.
This impressed me enormously because it seems almost genetic in young women these days to do that (sorry girls if that sounds sexist) .
she also didn't seem interested in belonging to any of the gangs, she was so individual.
she had odd ways about her as well, she was very abrupt when answering people, not rude, but she'd always be very direct , like when she said to Sam "Too nice."
It was also funny the way she looked so geeky without her make-up, and not in an ugly way, just so un-vain .
As the show progressed I found her more and more beautiful, but at the start wasn't really attracted to her, she just wasn't my 'type' , but as I got to like her more and more she just grew more beautiful . I love her smile, it's so bright and happy whereas someone like Grace has an ugly forced sneering smile .
I have to say that before the HND I really didn't like any of the HMs apart from ash. Ash stood out like a girl in a Grimm fairy tale, surrounded by freaks and monsters. Lea, Nikki, Grace , sezer etc. were just horrible and the others weren't far behind .
Ash was different because her emotions and reactions were honest, the others were so devious in the way they spoke to each other, this is why I laugh my head off at the idea that ash is the most machiavellian (btw - has anyone noticed that when this came up and they were all wondering what Machaivellian meant ash said "it's about how much you can get on with people" now if you answered the mach test in that frame of mind you would answer differently)
And the other thing was just this indefinable thing which is where she'd drift off into the distance, this is the thing that I found most compelling, altho it's also the hardest to talk about without sounding like a nutter! And then one day heard her saying to pete "Do youever have conversations with yourself in your head? I do, I always argue with myself about whether I did the right thing." And my jaw dropped, because no-one ever admits to talking to themselves, we admit to thinking about things but no-one describes as if they're having a conversation with themself because it makes you sound a bit of a schizo, but ash would just come out with these things and not care .
she was just so much better than all the others with their devious back-stabbing, a*rse licking, prejudices, jealousies etc.

I could really identify with her soul searching. I remember her saying things about biblical characters in the diary room, something about Judas. She is very spiritual regarding the soul searching.
She is immensely loyal as well and is very emotional. She learns from experience and she is a survivor. She wears what she likes and doesn't care. She is a warm, supportive friend.
She had a difficult childhood with a difficult sounding mother as did I so I guess I sympathise on that front as well.

I pretty much agree with ALL of these posts. I haven't really felt this strongly (in terms of wanting to support) a HM before. I did really like BB3's Sophie because of what she'd had to endure at the hands of the bullies (Adele & Jade) but, I didn't really make the effort to get so involved as I have done so with Aisleyne. Aisleyne did something that I consider really admirable in the house and that was standing up to the bullies. She was very vocal about what Grace did to Susie even though in a way she was 'jeopardising' her own position in the house (Grace seemed to have a lot of support within that house and Ash was still considered an 'outsider') yet, she didn't care. Grace had just 'humiliated' someone that she had a lot of respect for and rather than just pretend to be 'offended' or 'ignore it' (which is what Pete, Richard, Lea and Glyn pretty much did) she chose to be vocal about it. I hadn't really been that involved in BB up until that point. After that, I really liked Aisleyne and had a lot of respect for the fact that she didn't care what the others thought of her. Another thing was that she really exceeded my 'expectations'. When I first heard of her, I just rolled my eyes and thought - 'oh great, they've got another bimbo in the house'. Yet, everything she did was the complete opposite to how I had assumed she'd behave. She wasn't bothered about being a part of the 'popular' crowd, she didn't 'bi@tch' about the other HMs in regards to their looks, clothes, that kind of thing. If she did have an issue with someone she sought advice first and then would later 'confront' them to try and sort things out. It's a shame that a lot of people considered her 'fake' just because she was versatile and 'real' enough to be able to adapt to new situations. I also liked the fact that if she did make mistakes then she would acknowledge them and make the effort to try and learn from them. I suppose that was what made her the most 'real' HM ever. I also in some ways could relate to how she behaved, which is again why she came across as very 'real' to me. She has a good heart and I think that's why I really like her and supported her. It's true that when I first saw BB I didn't think she was overly attractive however, as the series progressed she showed her inner beauty and it became clear that although she didn't possess a 'natural' beauty like Imogen she was still very striking (she has beautiful eyes - very sparkly and expressive and a lovely smile). I really do wish her all the best in regards to the future and hope that she does well in whatever career path she chooses. She really deserves it.

Great post sheba and welcome to the forum.
Yes Ash had a great individuality, she didn't believe in just standing there and saying nothing or waiting for someone else to speak up, she showed Grace up for the arrogant fool she is while the others stood and did nothing, and even later they did nothing (Tricky Dicky) .
I too didn't find her particularly attractive at first, but it's a great example of a person's personality and their manner making them more beautiful .
