IF you only eat your words once this year make sure those words are KATE LAWLER.

The lass from South East London has battled through ‘being off the telly’ prejudice to score a top UK DJ residency for Sankey’s (Manchester), bookings across the world and a collaboration with one of house music’s hottest names.

Passionate about house music from visits to clubs where the likes of Carl Cox and John Digweed span ten years ago, Kate took to the decks herself two years ago and started playing a mixture of house - from soulful to filthy electro. Now she’s inspired by stripped down house and techno and is booked regularly at clubs like The Cross, Pacha, The Egg, Privilege and Eden in Ibiza plus venues in Dubai, Tokyo and Morocco.

Says Kate: “People have this pre-conception that my music collection consists of commercial pop, R ’n’ B and party anthems. It gets on my tits that some people don't take me seriously because of Big Brother. But I love to surprise people with the music I play and I always get positive feedback.”

Kate has further proved her credibility by winning a residency at the north’s most prestigious club, Sankey’s. Owner David Vincent commented, “Sankey’s brings out the best in DJs and this is the case with Kate, who is blossoming into a resident the club can be proud of.”

Not content with taking on the DJing world, Kate has been in the studio working on her own production to let the naysayers know what she’s all about. Influenced by the likes of Trentemoller, Claude Von Stroke and Shlomi Aber, it is still marked by her own unique sound. Producer Mark Knight said, “In my opinion, Kate Lawler is on the way to becoming the biggest female DJ in the country, with passion, musical
credibility and understanding of how to rock a party, she is my tip for the top. Go to one of her gigs and draw you own opinion."

Kate was the first celebrity I became a fan of and while Aisleyne and Saskia may have superseded her in my affections I still think Kate is the most talented ever to come out of BB

She wasn't the slightest bit boring in BB, she was brilliant on Capital Radio and the only thing worth watching RI:SE for. She's been doing an amazing job as a presenter on a late night dating show recently too. Knocks the socks off of most of the others ;D

There was a show a while back in which some journalist or other was trying to rubbish reality TV and its stars and challenged them to perform in front of a panel of judges to see if they actually had any talent. Kate won with a comedy sketch and went on to do a live comedy show in Scotland as a challenge. Boy did she show him up

She even did pretty well in celebrity wrestling

I liked her in BB. I went off her during BB7 when she was working for the Sun. She was pro-Nikki and anti-Ash. I think I recall her doing a U turn when the tide of opinion turned in the final week.

A lot of people got the wrong idea about Aisleyne but Kate never said anything particularly malicious she just didn't see what we saw.

I don't tend to talk BB with my sister much but, in the final week, when she asked me who I wanted to win she couldn't believe I liked Aisleyne. She'd made the same mistake as the rest of the masses.

I don't think any less of Kate for her opinions of Ais than I do of my Sister. At the end of the day you can't judge a person's worth based on who they like and who they don't like. It's a very subjective thing and we can all make mistakes.

That's very true. If we all liked the same people it would be a very dull World. I can't understand why anyone liked Nadia but I don't dislike them as a person for liking her.

I liked Kate during BB3. She was a good HM, and her impressions were hilarious!

All these BB's are running into each other I am forgetting who was in what year.

Actually, Alex is one of my most disliked housemates ever (along with Ahmed, Derek and Makosi). No one in BB7 came close to the depths of contempt in which I hold him. But, as you say, each to their own

I'm just happy the public got it right in BB3. Apart from Cameron, my favourite hasn't won since

I saw Kate as an entertaining housemate and a nice person. I thought that with these qualities, she would relate to Aisleyne and give her weight of support as a Sun columnist to her. Kate's support for the bring back Nikki campaign disappointed me. I interpreted it as an indirect disapproval of Aisleyne's survival (as the second favourite for eviction) in that particular round. I thought that she was a better judge of character. I felt that as a housemate who had to endure the behaviour of Jade, Alex, and Adele, she could relate to the BB7 housemates who had to endure Nikki's behaviour. I take your point that she made mistakes about Aisleyne. I have my suspicions as to the degree of autonomy she had in her appraisal of the housemates. I wish her well as a DJ, but hope Aisleyne does even better in years to come.
